Portrait Sessions for Independent Musicians

I’ve worked with musicians across the rock, soul, jazz, classical and Americana genres for 20 years. While I have always approached each shoot as an exploration of an artist’s unique identity, I felt it was time to offer a streamlined approach to make things easier and more affordable for independent musicians.

Pricing and Process:

I like to work collaboratively, I like to hear about what you want to do while also guiding you towards what I think will be the most effective and interesting photos. The approach is easygoing, conversational and co-creative.

The Fee is $875, which includes:

  • An approximately 2-hour portrait session in my Brooklyn photo studio.

  • Variation of wardrobe and ‘looks’ as much as time allows, with changes in the background and lighting to complement the creative goals of the shoot.

  • Delivery via Dropbox gallery containing a selection of downloadable low-res proof files, usually about 50+ images.

  • 8 hi-res finalized and lightly retouched photos.

  • Licensing for professional promotional use, including press photos, tour posters, programs, website and social media.

The Studio:

My studio is a private 650 sq. ft. street level space on a quiet block in Vinegar Hill, Brooklyn, just north of DUMBO and south of the Navy Yard. The nearest train is the F at York St., about an 8 minute walk.

We’re equipped with top-quality Profoto lighting, hi-res digital cameras and classic analog medium format and 35mm film cameras. (Shooting on film is possible for an additional fee per-roll.)

This is also musician’s space, home to to vintage bass guitars, 3,000 LPs, and a vintage tube amp, turntable and speakers. If you want to stream your phone or laptop to a 1960s Fisher X100 tube amp, we’ve got you covered!

There’s also the comforts of a couch, private bathroom with a shower, clothing steamer, Nespresso machine and a mini-fridge stocked with La Croix. We can usually arrange a private parking spot with advance notice as well.

Optional Grooming / Hair and Makeup:

Men: Our cosmetology-licensed groomer can provide camera-ready powder, coverup makeup and basic hairstyling. Though not always necessary, it can add significantly to the quality of the shoot depending what we’re going for. Rate: $275.

Women: Our stylist is capable of doing a fantastic job on both hair and makeup, shaping the mood and message of the shoot. The stylist will be present for the entire shoot for touchups and adjustments. Rate: $375.
